A Simple Saying...

I read this quote the other day and it was one of those ones that actually stays with you once you've read it.

There are so, so many inspirational, positive, feel-good, life-affirming quotes out there that sometimes it gets to the point where they just really mean nothing. Timelines are saturated with all these preppy, funny, cheesy, sarky, inspirational quotes and 9 times out of 10 they evoke an eyeroll or a sigh instead of the desired laugh or lifted spirit.

Now, to be completely honest with you, I do love a good quote! I have boards dedicated to them on Pinterest and I have them stuck on my bedroom walls for a little boost if I happen to glance at them. But there are so many out there, it can get a bit too much! They overlap and contradict one another, some give great advice and others well, not so great. Some straight up don't make any sense!

Sometimes it can be hard to sift through them all and find one that actually makes you stop and think for a minute. And then think about it again in half an hour. Then the next day it pops up in your mind again. Before you know it, you're thinking about it alot of the time, reminding yourself of it's truth and what it means for you personally, in your own life, right where you are now.

That's what I found with this particular quote.

It's not massively profound, or impressive, or life-changing. I'm not even certain that it is a "quote" per se, but more of a turn of phrase.

:::::

See, I told you it was nothing special!

Or maybe, that's exactly why it is special. We, as a generation, spend so much time preoccupied with what comes next, what our next step should be, what life milestone we should be hitting next. There is all of this pressure to have everything figured out by a certain age, and if you don't well, you must be doing something wrong then!

Constantly thinking about what comes next can be so draining. I mean, I fully support going out and chasing your dreams and your passions, and having that motivation to always be furthering yourself and your career is amazing.

But, if you're one of those people who constantly worries about what the future has in store, then I urge you to embrace what this quote is saying. I am most definitely one of those people, and I cannot tell how much I needed to read this and believe it for myself.

You are exactly where you need to be.

I love it because it reminds me that God is playing a part in my life. If I trust in Him and follow His guidance, then I will be okay. Even if that one simple thing, trusting Him, is quite possibly one of the hardest things to actually do and one of the easiest things to say. To give up that control over my life and trust that everything will work out exactly in the way that it's supposed to, is one of my most challenging aspects of being a Christian.

And no, it doesn't mean that because I believe that God has a plan for my life, that I just sit back and do nothing and wait for opportunities and experiences to fall into my lap. I still have to put myself out there, and make plenty of decisions and mistakes! What it means is that no matter what I do, what actions I take or paths I choose, God will always be there leading me through one phase of my life into the next.

But finding this quote, this saying, it was like breathing a sigh of relief! I can't even remember where I saw it originally, but it has been dancing around my brain for a few weeks now.

You are exactly where you need to be.

Stop listening to the media saying you're a failure if you don't have your life worked out yet. Stop bowing to the pressure that social media dishes out day after day, and remember that everything you see there is filtered. People only show their best selves on social media, most of the time what we see isn't real! We are all guilty of it, every single one of us, but that doesn't make it any less true.

You are exactly where you need to be.

Things will work out. With your job, with your studies, with your relationships, with your family. But it's so important to just stop and take a breath. You are exactly where you need to be. So stop freaking out, let go of everything that is holding you back or bogging you down and revel in the knowledge that you are right where you need to be!
