Mini Adventure - Glenoe Waterfall

Monday, 29 June 2015

Two weekends ago, David and I headed out for a wee drive, and we ended up at Glenoe Waterfall. We weren't heading anywhere in particular, but it felt like it had been ages since the last time we went on a little Saturday adventure!

We've been trying really hard to save money so at the minute that means cutting out going out for dinner, going to the cinema, going for random drives and essentially just wasting loads of petrol...Luckily, Glenoe Waterfall isn't all that far from where I live, so it wasn't too bad in terms of petrol!

Anyway, on this particular Saturday, we had already passed up the chance to go out for the day with a group of friends because we knew that we would both end up spending more than we wanted to. It also ended up being a really beautiful day, and we didn't want to waste it, because let's face it, beautiful days are hard to come by here!

So out we went in the car, not looking for anywhere in particular, but at the same time hopeful that we'd find somewhere nice to explore, that wasn't too far away.

We got a bit lost in the back, country roads and then got really frustrated by the road works and closed roads.

There were a sad few minutes as we almost gave up looking for somewhere to stop and enjoy the sunshine, and just head home because who actually cares about stupid road works and diverted traffic signs that just double back on themselves?!

On our way back to familiar territory, we passed signs for Glenoe Waterfall and decided to follow them. I'd only ever been once before and had literally no idea how to try and find it myself, so we pretty much just stumbled across it!

The car park is tiny. Like I think there's only enough room for maybe 5 cars and when we turned into the car park it was so busy! We managed to get quite lucky, as a car was just leaving as we pulled in so we took their parking space with no fuss.

It was so busy though, because a youth group was down with Climb NI. They were rock climbing down the waterfall, they had a nerf war set up and it looked like they'd been doing some archery aswell! It looked like so much fun, but there was so many of them. They were everywhere!

Glenoe Waterfall and the area around it isn't very big, it's a very short walk, albeit with lots of steps, but this isn't the place to come if you're looking for a lovely long walk.

It's a charming little spot for a small walk, and to take a few minutes out of real life and appreciate the beauty of the area.

The waterfall, pool and river are all beautiful, especially in the sunshine. It looked like a magical, fairy glen just tucked away from civilisation!

If you've never been here before, I definitely recommend it. It's just so pretty!

I'd say it's up there with some of my favourite places in Northern Ireland. Where are some of your favourite places?
